Reflections Counseling provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations consider the individual, the family, and the community in the evaluation process and provide detailed treatment recommendations.
Psychological testing is a comprehensive evaluation procedure that measures and identifies important information about an individual’s current level of functioning, underlying cognitive or learning issues, strengths and weaknesses, and identifies risk factors. Testing can help you maximize your success in treatment by helping you understand the relationship between your emotions, behaviors, thoughts, and personality.
Services include:
Intelligence Testing (IQ): A thorough evaluation of cognitive strengths and weaknesses, including assessing for developmental delays, intellectual giftedness, kindergarten readiness, language and communication skills, non-verbal reasoning skills, processing speed, and memory.
Academic Achievement Testing/ Testing for Learning Disabilities: Educational achievement testing assesses skill levels in reading, mathematics, writing, and academic fluency, skills, and application. It provides information related to academic strengths and weaknesses and provides the basis for diagnosis learning disabilities. Results can be used to assist in educational planning, including recommendations for Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for Special Education and 504 plans.
Testing for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD): A comprehensive battery of tests designed to accurately diagnose Attention Deficit disorders.
Personality/Emotional Testing: A thorough evaluation of behavioral, emotional, and personality functioning. Provides the basis for diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and other mental health disorders. This type of testing is often used for diagnostic clarification.
Neuropsychological screening: Neuropsychological screening includes testing in the areas of memory and attention as well as planning and organizational skills.
Autism Spectrum Disorders: Provides comprehensive assessment of Autism Spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s disorder.
Substance Abuse: Assists in diagnosis of substance abuse/dependence, risk of relapse, and treatment planning strategies.
Psychological testing is typically completed in three sessions. An initial intake session with the client and family (if relevant) helps determine the need for psychological testing. If testing is indicated, an individualized testing battery is created based on the individual’s needs and concerns. Clients are encouraged to bring previous school records, test records, and counseling reports so that we have the most comprehensive view of the client. The client then completes the testing battery, taking between 2-5 hours. Clients with longer testing batteries can complete this over the course of two days.
On the final session, the client and family receive the results and interpretation of the testing, as well as recommendations for treatment, referrals, and time to ask questions. Results include a written report of all findings, with explanations of the tests used and the results, a psychosocial history, a summary and diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment.
All information provided in the psychological testing is strictly confidential and subject to HIPAA.
